Argosy Minerals (AGY) has begun producing battery-quality lithium carbonate at its proposed Rincon operation in Argentina.

The company said it had already produced 5.1 tonnes of battery-quality product.

The lithium carbonate batch production began as the total works for the development of the Rincon operation reach 98 per cent completion.

Argosy Managing Director Jerko Zuvela said the company was “delighted” with the batch production levels to date.

“The Puna operations team has done a fantastic job to realise this significant accomplishment as we progress towards commencing steady-state continuous production operations by mid-year at our Rincon lithium project and become only the second ASX-listed commercial-scale lithium carbonate producer,” Mr Zuvela said.

As commissioning phase works at the project near completion, AGY said production throughput and scaling trials were in progress.

AGY shares were up 2.16 per cent to 71 cents at 10:14 am AEDT.
