    I don't think the regulations are signaling a mandate of the surcharge add, but rather presenting an option.

    It seems there might be a misunderstanding about what makes BNPL (Buy Now, Pay Later) so powerful. BNPL is probably best situated not in the world of basic necessities.

    Primarily, it's about lowering the barrier in consumers' minds when it comes to selecting discretionary or luxury goods, especially when choosing one retailer over another. If a discretionary retailer adds a 4.5% charge for a BNPL option, then consumers might not opt for it, and a sale could be lost.

    For example, if I were buying a new sheet set for my guest bedroom, I might just be browsing. However, if I come across a great deal for the new Sheridan "Forbidden Foliage" collection that comes with zero cost to me on my $9.99 monthly fee from ZIP, I might be persuaded after a few red wines to make the purchase. It lowers the barrier for me to make discretionary choices when drunk biggrin.png
