GENERAL: DOW: Downer awarded five year NBN contract

DOWNER AWARDED FIVE YEAR NBN CONTRACT
Downer EDI Limited (Downer) announced today it had been awarded a five year
contract by nbnTM to continue rolling out the national broadband network
(NBN) under the new Multi-technology Mix model.
Work under the contract is set to commence on 1 July 2015 and is valued at
approximately $100 million in the first year. The value of the contract in
subsequent years will depend on the volumes allocated by nbn as the roll out
continues under the Multi-technology Integrated Master Agreement (MIMA).
For the past two and a half years, Downer has been successfully rolling out
the Fibre to the Premise network in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland,
Western Australia, South Australia and the Australian Capital Territory under
the Network Services Master Agreement (NSMA).
Under the MIMA, which replaces the NSMA, Downer will be responsible for
connecting the NBN from main network exchanges to:
o in-street fibre to copper nodes (Fibre to the Node);
o customer premises (Fibre to the Premise); and
o cabinets in the basements of multi-dwelling units (Fibre to the Basement).
The new scope requires a combination of Downer's core capabilities including
civil works, fibre and copper network cabling, electrical connections and
commissioning activities.
In the first year of the MIMA roll-out, Downer is forecast to make the NBN
available to approximately 144,000 premises in Queensland, New South Wales
and Western Australia.
Downer is continuing to work on delivering the network to approximately
59,000 other premises under the existing NSMA agreements and expects to
complete this work over the course of the year.

Downer's customers in the communications sector include nbn, Foxtel and
Telstra in Australia and Chorus, Vodafone and Spark in New Zealand.
