This is the law of the jungle. If you don't perform you don't survive. In every company I know the buck stops with management and if management doesn't do the job then you get someone else in who will.
I'm sure TB did everything he could to make sure the company was financially sound because it was in his best interests to do so, however he and the BOD were very well rewarded and at he end of the day they did not measure up. In fact it was their highly inflated salaries that were partly responsible for the companies financial state - it was the shareholders that suffered financially, not the Directors.
