I suppose as with many atrocities that occur in war, the idea of dehumanizing the poor victim appears to often justify the cause by the perpetrators. It seems to take away their sense of guilt and treat it more as part of the booty of victory.
Even now, I can still see vividly the terrible image of a pregnant woman who had been raped and murdered in the Odessa massacre. War is no justification to treat any human being like this. Let alone innocent civilians.
The right sector have a lot to answer for.
