Tony Abbott told us weeks ago after his near death experience in the Party Room that he was going to get back on track and "get rid of the barnacles".
I took that as meaning, inter alia, policies he cannot get through the Senate presently and also 10th and 11th order priority issues - like the silly PPL.
Why then is Abbott persisting with one of the biggest barnacles of all, constitutional recognition of one class of people to the exclusion of all others.
I do not see it has any possible chance of being passed in a referendum as it will constitute a form of apartheid, when surely the goal in an egalitarian Australia is to promote unification and assimilation.
It seems to me that even after Sir Prince Phillip and the near death experience, Abbott still does not get it. He has a tin ear. The priority is [1] the economy [2] the economy and [3] the economy.
He has zero chance of convincing Coalition supporters this is a mainstream issue.\ let alone get support for it.
