Have you ever travelled to places where the UN are active? I'd be interested to learn where you have seen them operate on a first hand basis. Teachers Common room gossip and exchange of falsehoods does not count as first hand experience.

I have. And this is what I saw. It's a gravy train. An empire building exercise for all their staff. The first thing they do is ensure their staff are accommodated in the finest hotels and villas. Meanwhile, the people they are supposed to be helping are suffering in squalor all around them.

If you get a chance, go to Sudan, visit the airport in Khartoum, specifically that they have their own terminal where dozens of white painted aircraft with UN emblazoned across their fuselage operate from.

Go go to the Hilton on the Nile and see how many UN staff you can point out... Probably 90% of the patrons.

Its profligate waste on a scale so grand that it beggars belief. Money burning that poor old Rudd could only dream about.

Meanwhile, the Janjaweed operate with impunity in Dharfur. What has the UN done to stop the rapes and killings?

The UN is just a larger version of the Rudd/Gillard fiasco. It's all about meetings, writing policy papers, yet more meetings and study groups and importantly, taking delivery of a brand new Land Cruiser. No one actually does anything. Quite the reverse. It's a Yes Minister type parallel universe where the object is to prevent anything useful being done.

If ever you think you may have discovered a UN success story, dig deeper and you'll see it's been due to the work (a dirty word in the UN) done by an NGO but claimed by the UN

niels550, as it turns out I have been fortunate enough to travel to places where UN staff are active. I've also sourced news about their activities in Palestine during the recent conflict with Israel and am therefore aware that many UN staff were killed by Israeli shelling - even of UN sanctioned hospitals and schools. Only people with jaundiced views would deny that many UN staff are confronted with very serious risks and do not get to stay in the Hilton on Nile at all.

Sadly, I further note the continuing failure of posters who see only the excesses and failures of the UN to provide a preferable alternative. Even the wonderful prompts I provided in earlier posts on this thread haven't produced a single suggestion; not ONE!
