In psychology, The 'progressive' vs 'conservative' divide is explained by ones reaction to 'cognitive dissonance'.

'Conservatives' have presuppositions that they don't want challenged, so when they face 'cogitative dissonance' they what called 'worldview backfire effect' where they attack the source of cognitive dissonance trigger in order to maintain the presupposition. Conservatives avoid cognitive dissonance and it sources such as being exposed to situations of empathy.

'Progressives' on the other hand, welcome cognitive dissonance as it shows they hold an unwanted presupposition. When new information or exposure to sources of cognitive dissonance arise they change their position to accommodate.

I can now see how merely asking for clarification on what makes a 'rightie' a 'rightie' and what make a 'leftie' a 'leftie' would be considered "baiting" by a 'conservative' as having to explain their positions qualifiers would cause them all sorts of cognitive dissonance as their presuppositions are exposed.

I still can't see how the Psychology 'conservatives/progressive' paradigm fits into the 'left vs right' political frame work.

In any case IMO, the usage on HC labelling others as a "lefties" is a form of 'worldview backfire' and very much intended as an insult.(flame/bait)

You are equally avoiding cognitive dissonance by suggesting such things!
Neither do I believe that conservatives (generally) do not want presuppositions challenged. I for instance weigh up the pros and cons on most issues or policy!
The ABC charter clearly states it should not promote anyone view disproportionally! Also empathy on issues is subjective by nature. For instance do you feel for Donald Trump when he is being subjected to constant abuse?
