I must say, I am surprised by the tack you are taking. Most other arguments against using Norway as an example are made around it generating most of its domestic electricity through renewable energy - i.e. hydro power.

That argument is just as irrelevant as yours about them having gained their prosperity through the sale of oil, since...

The transition towards sustainability will be difficult and take a long time, so both Norway and NSW are taking small incremental steps in that direction... by transitioning to EVs that will be mostly powered by locally generated renewable energy.

... just that Norway started the journey in the early 1990's, while the Liberal NSW government only took its first tentative steps... two weeks ago.

Given we are on the same path, it might just make sense to compare what strategies the leader has employed in the quest to make EVs more affordable got low income earners, no?

I am sure that ultimately, neither Norway nor NSW will be able to maintain their fossil fuel sales, be it for export or for domestic consumption.

Both will have to look for other sources for the generation of prosperity... it appears to me that Norway is more advanced in their thought process... by roughly 40 years.

If you believe that the best approach for both Norway and NSW is to stop exporting their fossil fuels right now - in order to remove any appearance of hypocrisy - I am happy for you to argue the case on a seperate HC thread. It should make for an interesting discussion.

Just in my humble opinion, transitioning to EVs is perhaps a more doable approach.

This transition will also simultaneously see an accelerated transition to renewable energy. As more and more nations progress along this path, fossil fuel markets - both for petrol used in transportation and coal used in electricity generation - will evaporate over time.

By leading the way in the EV revolution, Norway is effectively kick starting the transition by showing others how it can be done. Hats off to the Norwegians!

How does a country like Norway subsidise EV’s for the less wealthy?

It is a very simple question?

I didn’t ask what form of power generation will be used to charge them up, did I?

Yes, I think most people who have looked at Norway can understand the bounty of natural resources this country has been blessed with.
The hydro options are almost endless for generating electricity for what is a relatively small country/population.

Do you think they have any issues with Green groups trying to stop dams/hydroelectric facilities?

It has been their revenue from oil that has put them in a position to aggressively subsidise the price of EV’s and their geological positioning that has blessed them with cheap electricity to run the things.

Apart from Greenland and possibly NZ could you find any other countries blessed with a plethora of hydro/geothermal options for easy power?
