Re shorting. Do you believe it is ethical that YOUR AZY holding is allowed to be lent out to a shorting company for a small % by some fund manager who cares not your AZY's sp?
If you have read in many places that shorting is "fair game" or whatever, then maybe you are misinformed about shorting in that shorting in the futures market is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT BALL GAME to stocks being shorted.
A futures position is a contract (each position has one side long and one side short). Each share in a stock does NOT have an explicit balance between short and long. It is essentially an asset.
Is not shorting in stocks a legacy of blind governance led by hi tech finance interests?
