@tbirdsrgo There are so many motivations at work - one thing I have realised is that politicians will do anything to stay in power - power is a drug they get addicted to. Netanyahu's actions are being questioned by an ever larger public - his war-like actions, he hopes, are first of all going to give him 'victory' over that rag-tag mass of humanity called Palestinians, (but basically of the same stock as he and many Israelis) - and secondly secure him continued popularity with the Israeli voting public, thus securing his 'job' and privileges forever.
'Winning a war' is always a hit at elections - remember Margaret Thatcher?
I do think there is a change in the air, just hope it does not mean more war-like actions, more involvement of foreign powers.
