I've always been a bit doubtful that Thaung Tun was talking about MYL when he mentioned "decision coming soon" in the AusCham event. I think he was talking about the PanAust exploration license, announced a few days later. Sure, that didn't involve any MIC approval, but he did know about it, and it was something positive for him to flag to a meeting of Australian companies.

This is NOT bad news for MYL approval. It's just that Thaung Tun doesn't have visibility on MYL process at the moment - it's with MONREC, the natural resources ministry. Once the PSA is agreed with them, it will move to MIC for approval, and I believe Thaung Tun will move on that quickly and there will be no reasons to hold it up. Whereas discussions with MONREC are always complicated and can take time. This is not a reason to worry, and in particular, it means that there isn't necessarily any "delay" or problem. A decision in the next couple of months remains very likely in my personal view.
