Victorians are finally waking up to the disastrous performance of Daniel Andrews since 2014.

The latest Roy Morgan conducted over the last two days in the wake of the reckless decision to tear up the Comm Games contract and expose Victoria to potentially more than $1 billion of compensation.

Andrews has been  exposed as a financially reckless and dangerous leader who will stop at nothing to gain political advantage, even if it is not in the best interests of Victoria.

Andrews’ popularity plunges after Games decision, poll shows

    Updated Jul 20, 2023 – 7.12pm,first published at 5.43pm

Support for the Victorian government and Premier Daniel Andrews has plunged after the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games, a new poll shows, as the state opposition demands the resignation of deputy premier Jacinta Allan, who was in charge of the event.

More voters now disapprove of Mr Andrews’ performance than approve of it, for the first time since he was elected premier in 2014, according to the Roy Morgan poll of more than 1000 Victorians on Wednesday and Thursday.

The snap poll found that support for Victorian Labor fell to 53 per cent (down 8.5 percentage points since late May) compared with the LNP Coalition on 47 per cent (up 8.5 percentage points) on a two-party preferred basis.

The result is despite 58 per cent of Victorian electors saying the decision to cancel the 2026 Commonwealth Games was a “good idea” and 42 per cent saying it was a “bad idea”.

But the decision has hit the premier’s popularity, making him politically vulnerable for the first time in his career and putting the Liberals back into the next election race.

The poll showed 55 per cent of respondents now disapprove of Mr Andrews’ job performance compared with 45 per cent that approve.

    ‘Heads must roll’

Mr Andrews announced on Tuesday that Victoria would drop the 12-day Games, set to be held in regional hubs including Bendigo, Ballarat, Shepparton and Geelong, after saying the cost had blown out from $2.6 billion to $7 billion.

Ms Allan was the Minister for Commonwealth Games Delivery. She is also in charge of the Suburban Rail Loop, a signature project initially expected to cost $50 billion but which the Parliamentary Budget Office estimates will blow out to more than $200 billion, and other big projects including the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel in her capacity as transport minister.

“If ministerial responsibility counts for anything, heads must roll, starting with Jacinta Allan, who continues to oversee costly blowouts on major projects across Victoria,” Opposition Leader John Pesutto said on Thursday.
“It’s two days on and no one has taken responsibility for arguably the biggest debacle in 30 years. For those who can remember, you probably have to go back to the State Bank debacle in the early 1990s for a similar fiasco.”

One Labor insider told The Australian Financial Review: “Jacinta Allan gets the good portfolios and yet they always seem to end up with cost blowouts.
“This is the biggest threat to her potential leadership that she’s faced.
