Maybe a bit of lateral thinking then if you can not go farming but like the idea of it :
I do not farm full time anymore , (use to be a dairy farmer and had side enterprises of dairy beef , maize silage and quarrying river rock ) but do have a lifestyle property now , I grow avocados , blue berries , and waratah flowers.
I can make $4k from 50 waratah bushes (initial capex about $2000( plants and trickle irrigation )) that take up no more than 600 square meters of space , easy to grow no fertiliser and only neatsfoot oil for spray once a year and therapeutic in three week harvesting takes about 20 hours all up in labor plus mowing between the rows and a bit of time selling to florists
You would not need irrigation in/near Melbourne
Drones would be an option to if you have the client market but not really farming is it .
other options could be selling fertiliser micro nutrients/ to farmers or a greenhouse growing seedlings , (tomatoes , pumpkins , broccoli , and selling seedlings at farmers markets
