Their deposits are of silica sands - which lead me to google the difference between it and silicon. Which the short version of the answer appears to be "just add lots of heat" to turn silica into silicon.

It will be interesting to see if silicon anodes can make a pricepoint that makes them attractive to battery manufacturers compared to graphite. Particularly if they need ADO's tech on top to provide stability for the required amount of battery life. I only just saw this company so forgive me if the answer is well known to holders. Will the extra range of silicon battery anode chem be capable of matching the current price of li-ion battery, and if not, how much more expense will the market bear for the increased range? So many variables to consider.

Anyway I'll do some more reading.
