Whatever transpires, the market seemed to think it is probably good - all the way through to the close on a Friday.

It seems pretty logical for the deal to be good. After all, the related parties also have a financial interest in the ongoing fortunes of AVB, in addition to their other, separate interests. Also, a terrible deal setting up a shareholder revolt is something no-one wants – least of all the incumbent management.

As for plan ‘B’ being not as good as plan ‘A’. Well, not necessarily although irrelevant since plan ‘A’ apparently fell over and hurt itself after winning the longest game of ‘statue’ ever played.

Plan ‘B’ may be a fresh option or one not fully explored before the finance delay started to drag on.

As far as the delay goes, I suspect the Petrobras bribery scandal involving politicians and public servants (plus economic turmoil in Brazil) is the underlying cause of the delay. Savvy businesses start using their resources to review all their deal history, check the washing basket for dirty linen, review the extent and style of corporate ‘hospitality’, company policies and practices, contemplate the behaviour of their partners and clients, etc. etc. and generally ‘hunker down’. Seems consistent with the hypothesis that BV was just stalling till AVB walked away, without having to technically renege on its loan ‘commitment’.
Anyway, all finance delay speculation apparently now redundant and consigned to history.

The only thing we can be sure of is that when the details are revealed, different posters will be explaining why the deal is ‘terrible’, ‘fantastic’, or ‘good enough’.

Feels great just to be free of the teeth-gnashing frustration of waiting, waiting and waiting…and to know something significant and probably good is now drawing near.
