He'll be a good source of information. Exploration geology and mine geology can be very different. He wont likely have had exposure to much, if any, aircore drilling in the mine environment, mainly RC and diamond. RC bit buttons can chip but not too common. The mines often have small labs that deal with mine and mill samples and allow very rapid turn around times that the mines require. These labs process a much smaller volume of samples than commercial labs. Though the mines will often use the labs for larger program when doing more resource valuation or large grade control programs. I've usually tried to make sure graduates and new geos visit a commercial lab to gain an understanding of how they operate, though most visits will be by those managing or auditing the lab contracts.
