Bahrain Telecommunications, majority-owned by the Bahrain Government, is an incumbent provider of fixed and mobile telephony services in the Kingdom of Bahrain and other communications services in Kuwait, Jordan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and India.

Chris’s role included:
• Business development: definition and execution of regional growth strategy;
• Business performance improvement: double-digit revenue and operating profit growth;
• Acquisitions: Jordan based Umniah Telecommunications (US$415m) and 20% of Yemen based Sabafon (US$158m);
• Treasury: debt funding of US$485m (US$300m facility 60% over subscribed);
• Financial control: control risk issues program across the group, identifying and rectifying operational and control weaknesses and achieving clean external audit clearance;
• Regulatory: government and regulatory representation in relation to mobile licences, MVNO's and mobile number portability;
• IT strategy and architecture redesign: resulting in reduced time to market, improved accuracy and improved customer satisfaction;
• Business process management and Six Sigma improvement program; and
• Human capital development: implementing and managing a group mentoring program, an employee recognition program and a Batelco Toastmasters program.

SingTel Optus is the second largest telecommunications company in Australia, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications.

Chris’s role included:
• Foundation member of kick-off team that established Optus as the second Australian telecommunications carrier following deregulation of the Australian telecommunications market;
• Multiple roles during the period with Optus across commercial operations, business process engineering, customer care and billing, strategic programs, networks, IT, corporate, commercial operations and finance;
• Organisational transformation and cost base realignment to create sustainable future growth in an environment of shrinking margins;
• Finance function, including revenue growth, profitability, return on investment, mergers and acquisitions, subsidiary company management, internal/external reporting, IPO, shareholder/market liaison, financial planning, treasury, taxation, property and administration;
• Commercial evaluation and administration of capital investments, customer bids, mergers and acquisitions;
• Commercial operations, including customer relationship management, billing, credit management, dealers and channels, third party settlements, sales reporting and commissions;
• Business operations and delivery, including product development, strategic programs, process engineering, methods, procedures and central program office; and
• Information technology, including platform renewal and development.
