with the US and AUS getting closer it seems, it would be helpful to improve the treaty so that US investors when there is no Franking can own in retirement accounts and have div taxes waived .. AND our Aussie friends also have that benefit holding in their retirement plans . We have that with Canada.
Dividends are important to both our countries investors total return and personally I will only invest in AUS/CA outside US, occasionally in UK where there is no tax w/held in taxable OR retirement a/cs- but these tend to be more international firms.
many companies like NEM have adopted a more shareholder friendly div/shareholder return (buyback) philosophy but the tax laws have not kept up. There are a lot of AUS co's I'd like to invest in in my RothIRA w/o having to worry about the franking etc.
Oh well... Long NEM and plan on adding on dips to build to the core holding I had in Newcrest. glta. Bea
