What AGM's in general have turned into though is an opportunity to legally shower management - whether they perform their duties to the benefit of the company or not - with benefits they themselves determine with the support of their major shareholders. Ordinary shareholders are merely bystanders in what is usually an annual rip-off as they watch their fearless leaders fill their pockets at their expense.
The above applies to all companies large and small. What's always puzzled me is why major shareholders even when they are deep underwater still support greedy underperforming Boards - maybe they are in so deep they are scared of losing the lot by dumping the entire Board?
The annual grab-fest of the AGM in general needs to be severely overhauled.
