The Federal Government's counter-terrorism laws have passed the Senate.

Labor joined with the Coalition to support the bill, which will enable the police to detain terrorism suspects for up to 14 days without charge.

The sedition provisions of the legislation also passed despite Labor and some Coalition senators arguing against their inclusion.

The sedition section of the laws mean people who incite violence against the Government could be jailed for up to seven years.
