Folks should avail themselves to google earth and check out Ravenswood. I have been there several times...well 50 years ago but suspect little has changed. The town is basically in the mine site. The current school is a sad little cluster of small buildings. Ravenswood was once a boom town akin the wonderful Charters Towers (Once suggested as Australias Capital!). Alas only a few buildings remain in a hostile landscape. I suspect all the small schools pupils are miners kids so this is both a goodwill gesture and oddly underlines the future of the mine.
