Livent produced 17kt of lithium carbonate end of 2022. AGY are basically following in their footsteps. Livent is not able to meet guidance and recently said the company is struggling to meet expectations because they 'can't find the key specialists needed to expand'. So while Livent have consistently boasted about future production forcasts in Argentina it hasn't materialised. Sound familiar?
IGO has a 49% stake in the Tianqi lithium refinery project (Kwinana) and is trying to produce battery grade lithium hydroxide and stated 'we inherited a lot of engineering challenges'. To date I still don't believe it is producing? (Anyone?) It was briefly in production but then they shut it down due to technical problems. Their last 'updates' on both the Tianqi and IGO websites relating to the project were over a year ago. Now, just silence because they are seriously struggling.
In summary, Livent and IGO / Tianqi and AGY are experiencing similar struggles. AGY aspire to be producing 12000tpa one day, LIVENT who are some years ahead of us managed to pump out 17,000 tonnes of LiC2O3 and are a $5 Billion dollar company (AUD) What is our market cap??
I strongly urge people to ignore these dimwits who are bagging AGY. They have absolutely no idea what they're talking about other than baiting. AGY will probably be producing current nameplate by 2025 and as these other companies are still struggling look how far we have come. I will echo JZ's last words to me 'We have a long way to go'. And don't they all! Look at the story of all the battery grade lithium producers. The story is the same. This is a highly specialised area. The Kwinana project (battery grade lithium hydroxide) is one of the only fully automated facilities globally. It's not up and running nor is AGY but I reckon they will be doing so sooner than those global multi billion dollar companies.
