Basically, HZR can produce H2 and graphite cheaper and cleaner than any other known process. It has been just a matter of proving up the process at increasing scales. 18 months ago they were producing it on a lab bench, under 1 gram.
The byproduct question: Hydrogen is a by-product of graphite production and graphite is a by-product of the hydrogen production, it all depends on who the end user is. Both are valuable commodities. So a graphite consumer can sell the H2 and offset cots of graphite manufacture and vice versa.
