Agreed. The EPL is due to expire in 2029 (lets hope Labour realize the folly of moving that out!) and to absorb the effective capex through opex over that period would be an excellent way of side stepping the whole removal of development capital rebates/tax incentives madness.
I really hope this is the direction of travel because 1) there is going to be a strong market for domestic natural gas for decades to come and 2) we dont have to rely on the whims of some blow in the wind politician!
On a side note I see that Europe are now the largest buyers of Russian LNG (in front of China). Politicians must be feeling pretty awkward about that reality, given their stance of banning pipeline gas. If this becomes headline news, imagine the uproar!
