The question is should we be backing the USA against
China when over 40% of our international trade is to
China and this is increasing because of out China-Aus FTA
which commenced Jan 1st this year.
Yesterday the Chinese Government refused an American
aircraft carrier permission to port in Hong Kong amid continuing bickering
about the contested South China Sea artificial islands.
Add to this the Treasurer's knock back of the Chinese/Kidman farm deal
and our decision to build $50 billion's worth of subs presumably to
protect ourselves from China and/or to back US moves against China
in the South China Sea later.
China has also being paranoid recently about US spying on mainland China:
"Since President Xi Jinping assumed power in 2012, China has sought to strengthen domestic security, including passing a counterespionage law last year. Now, Beijing has dramatically amped up a call for vigilance even from its youngest citizens, with games such as “Spot the Spy” being played in schools." (Source WSJ)
Given our outright backing of Uncle Sam and given the ongoing US/China bickering, China is likely to
punish us economically so that we simply can't afford to build the subs, warships & buy the warplanes
(some $300 billion's worth) by sourcing most of their iron ore, gas & coal elsewhere despite our FTA.
China is still a Communist country that believes in Marxist economic determinants and if put to the test,
its leadership will likely put "economic determinants" into practice and teach us a cruel lesson in Marxist
Political Economics.
