I agree. There is a tribal aspect to war .

That said, our modern civilisation is all about
getting rid of the negative aspects of tribalism (we/they)

And while politics is said to be local, our laws are national.
In other words, the country has replaced the tribe.

John Williamson's song reflects me/you/mateship aspects
of our culture despite its trending towards a mass society.

I lived in the USA for a while where mateship is virtually
non-existent and replaced by the cult of the individual.
