DUNCAN Storrar, the Geelong man the ABC presented as a “new national hero”, has an extensive criminal record over two decades, including threats to kill and unlawful assault.

The Herald Sun can reveal Storrar has gone to prison at least three times over the past 25 years for a string of offences.

The revelations will likely place pressure on the organisers of a Go Fund Me web page to reconsider whether to give Storrar the more than $60,000 raised in his name.

Storrar, 45, captured the nation’s attention when he appeared on the ABC’s Q&A;Budget election special, saying he didn’t have enough money to take his family to the cinema…

Storrar spent at least three months in prison after making a threat to kill someone and committing multiple breaches of an intervention order in 2003… As recently as March 2014, Storrar committed unlawful assault and received a wholly suspended two-month prison term.

shame on the abc for digging up these grubs - and to think that this grub will most likely get $60,000 for his %^$ about wanting a few extra dollars to take his kids to the movies.

so the grub is a druggy, a convicted thug blah blah - and is proclaimed an aussie hero - may as well nominate him for australian of the year
