simplistic vague comparison , Norway is a very different fish.We as a relatively new nation have relied on foreign investment to advance our mining & Agricultural industries. We also have had to deal with geographic remoteness & a small population to land mass ratio. The whole iron ore industry was a poor relation till China stepped up demand & FMG was really only able to exist because the Chinese needed third big player to even out the prices being asked by the other big two.The current overproduction is just bloody stupid from all concerned if you want to see how effective a real cartel operates just look at the Potash industry , The Canadians have run a Govt sanctioned cartel for years while the Russians have done the same. Remember when BHP wanted to buy the Can potash corp for $41Bil a few yrs ago , it was knocked on the head by the govt as BHP said they would operate outside the existing cartel.I still do not see anything wrong with foreign investment in mining in this country as we do the same all over the world, any mention of the Norway situation does nothing to advance the discussion.
