A lady on a Forum about Dodgy Builders asked me to give her a Call on the phone the other day. True.
She was on A Current Affair recently as her House wasnt built properly by the builder she hired to build her house.
She paid the QBCC (QBSA) insurance fee, and paid the Builder what he asked for to get started building.
The Builder did about 10 grand worth of work, (Materials and labour) about 10 grand worth and took off, wont come back.
The owner has Paid the builder about 80 grand, because he said he needed to buy the materials. But never did.
The QBCC wont look after the owner at all, took the owner to Court, so has kept the insurance fee and gave the owner nothing.
The Bank that was the lender for the new house, just approved all the money for the Builder, didnt check if he had done any work or if it was done right.
The New QBCC Commissoner used to work for ASIC, and has said how sorry he is of what happened,
But the owner lost in Court so QBCC will do nothing.
I calculated that QBCC pay out 20 bucks in Claims for every 100 Dollars revenue the QBCC earn in revenue from Licence fees and Insurance levies. 80c in the dollar goes to running the QBCC department,
The Punchline, that is the TRUTH not a joke, is that Father of the Builder Im referring to worked for the QBCC at the time as an assessor and inspector.
The work that was done, Timber floor, has been sitting in the sun for a year and is all rotten, so this owner has paid 80k for nothing.
The QBCC generates 190 Million in revenue pa, yet pays out 37 million per year in Claims. 80c on the dollar of revenue is used to run the QBCC department, staff, cars, Office etc etc.
