After 4 years of patiently exploring their way through many thousands of square kms. of WA's south-west ; on the way sampling well over 100 000 sites for signs of gold and being encouraged all the while by frequent sniffs and occasionally tantalized by persistent elevated values, Dominion's geologists eventually homed onto the outstanding anomaly at Lake Magenta South in their quest for the proverbial pot of gold that has been so elusive, for so long _ and all the indicators look good.
Geochemical sampling gives gold values in excess of 20 ppb over an area of 20 sq.km.
Gold values of >100 ppb over 25% of this area.
Within this area, several values of >500 ppb and up to 730 ppb have been recorded.
This arcuate geochemical anomaly directly overlays a similar dicontinuity in the magnetic trend.
Interface drilling finds gold in sulphide-rich clays over a wide area.
Initial RAB drilling into the bedrock gives values of >500 ppb gold.
New airborne geophisics at 200m line spacing have enhanced the area.
Additional sampling has extended the anomaly to encompass a strike length of 17 km.
Strongly anomalous Tungsten values are found to occur in the sulphide clays.
Elevated chrome & nickel values, plus copper, zinc & lead are detected.
Aircore drilling intersects gold in bedrock in widely spaced holes.
Multiple bedrock gold mineralized trends are identified by futher drilling.
These 3 sub parallel trends are tentatively closed off and named, viz, East zone, strike length of 1700m. West zone 1, strike length of 1300m. West zone 2, strike length of 850m Each of these have been found to be gold mineralized over their respective lengths of strike.
Induced polarization surveying has revealed distinct & emphatic anomalies at depth that coincide with both the most elevated surface geochemical values and the drill intersected gold mineralized trends.
Deep RC drilling to test these IP anomalies is programmed for immediate start after wet conditions have delayed progress.
All we can do now is to sit back and wait impatiently in the hope that there is a sleeping monster lying buried near Lake Magenta, waiting to be exposed.
Who knows - Boddington is just up the road!!
