On the other hand we saw the results of the Muslim extremists in Indonesia who intentionally murdered as many innocent Australian holidaymakers and local Balinese as they could resulting in the deaths of 88 Australians and, please excuse my ignorance, a fair number of Balinese and holidaymakers from elsewhere. Only three of the many involved were sentenced to death.
My thoughts are that the two crimes are incomparable given the intention of one group to murder and maim multiple innocent people against those moving drugs for a willing market.
HSBC has now been proven, on multiple fronts, to be laundering arms and major drug dealers ill gotten gains, but there hasn't been a single criminal charge laid against those within the bank who have enabled such dealings.
China has never forgotten the results of the opium dealers of the past, some of whose names and wealth remains potent today. Windsor's, Bush family, Sassoon's et al. Hong Kong was the land built on opium.
The sentence of execution by firing squad for the two Australian's is way out of proportion when compared to the likes of the criminal activities of the PTB which continue worse than ever into the present day.

Hi Chrysalis
No argument at all for the complete imbalance of justice. We don't have to like the rules, we merely have to abide by them.
I'm not a fan of being eaten by sharks therefore I have no intension of swimming at Jeffreys Bay in South Africa with a steak strapped to me. I don't like the possible outcome so I sure as hell am not going to put myself in that position leaving the outcome to chance.
I am still amazed people play Russian Roulette with their lives.
