Following today’s discussion in the thread--- 'With all this rain falling on the East Coast just think'

I feel we have an a golden opportunity to achieve something that is many times more valuable to the nation than the Snowy Mountains Scheme and put Australia on the world map as a progressive country willing to deal with climate change.

I made some points in this post
Post #: 23459325 but feel we are limiting ourselves as a nation if we don’t think ‘Big’

In essence: We need to ‘Re-green the Centre’ of Australia and become the world’s greatest producer of clean food.

As well, we will produce carbon offsets when revegetating our inland and also create work for millions including migrants wanting to arrive and work hard.

To do this we will need hundreds of solar powered pumps and large scale batteries for energy storage. We have the materials such as Lithium, Vanadium and of course Iron ore to produce many thousands of steel pipes.

The logic behind this is that the north of Australia is getting wetter and most of that water ends up in the sea, but the south is getting drier.

We have the engineering skills, free solar energy to pump water, willing workers including migrants and farmers ready to use the water to create large scale horticultural and animal stock-feed for domestic use and export.

    What will this scheme achieve?

1 A cooler and modified climate
    2
    Offsets for greenhouse gases
    3
    Work for Australians and migrants
    4
Big export dollars to places like China
    5
    A beautiful landscape for tourism
    6
A bigger and sustainable Australian population that is better able to defend itself.

Large-scale pipeline networks have been proposed in the past but were impractical due to pumping costs. New technologies will change that.

We have the machines to do the heavy lifting, the skills to design the infrastructure, the materials to build the pipelines and pumping stations, and the imagination to put it all together.

It might take 100 years to finish, but I can see a blooming landscape and a prosperous nation due to the ability to give the world the best quality food.

A golden future awaits--all we need is the will to make it happen and politicians with vision.
