'Major Chinese copper smelters are planning to meet in Shanghai on Saturday December 19 to discuss commercial stockpiling of the red metal, market sources told Metal Bulletin this week.
High-level executives from the cathode business of smelters will be at the meeting, an executive who will also be in attendance confirmed to Metal Bulletin.
The executive did not divulge how much copper the executives will earmark for stockpiling.
There is, however, some talk in the market that about 400,000 tonnes of copper could be set aside for stockpiling based on the front-month copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange.'
