    It is not the taxes that are the big bogeyman hanging over the energy giants, it is the decarbonisation of the energy sector that they fear. Transportation and energy generation are the bulk of the use of petroleum fuels. In the US over 80% are petrol, jet fuel and diesel. The remainder are heavy oil products and petrochemical feed stocks. Plastics consume about 4% via feedstock and around 4% of energy t0 create, fertilisers is less than that.

    I'm not arguing that petrochemical are going to be phased out quickly, though once the decarbonisation of energy generation gets into full swing they are going to be in a world of pain. The smart money already knows this.
