Clive Palmer won’t support Jacqui Lambie’s push to ban the burqa
CLIVE Palmer has left his colleague Jacqui Lambie out on her own when it comes to her push to ban the burqa.
The outspoken Tasmanian Senator has drafted a private member’s bill to outlaw the garment in public places, describing it as a security risk.
But the party’s leader Clive Palmer today told reporters they “don’t have a position as a policy” on the burqa.
“We think all Australians are equal,” he said.
“There’s no bill to ban the burqa from Palmer United Party.”
That’s despite Senator Lambie planning on introducing one, which she hopes MPs are given a conscience vote on.
Mr Palmer said all members of Parliament have got the right to introduce private members bills and he doesn’t have a “problem with freedom of speech”.
