To quantitate the cost of covid is pointless because we have no idea of what future ramifications this pandemic will bestow upon us.
Eg. Look at the cost of the 1918 pandemic.
But short term costs are staggering and now this new strain is accelerating the spread I think we are in the eye of the pandemic storm with a substantial blowout during the next 4 months in the number of deaths and infections clogging up global medical facilities.
It's about time the medical beauracrates got into lockstep and looked hard at the practicalities of what they are doing. There are vaccines, Astrazenica Pfizer Mederna Sinofam, which have passed milestone after milestone in testing. These vaccines have the ability to be used in hospitals globally right now and are capable of saving millions of lives and unburdening a looming hospital global catastrophe.
Approve these vaccines post haste to be used in critical areas or face a "cost" of many more $trillions (seems this pandemic is primarily measured in $trillions and deaths take a back seat).
But, as the line goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet". Mankind's stupidity does it again. We don't need a virus to knock us out, we're quite capable of doing this to ourselves.
