Honestly, if antivaxxers were actually serious, this mRNA technology should be their wet dream. No adjuvant, no thimerosal, no "toxins" of any kind - none of the boogeymen used by the movement to demonise other vaccines. Just a little snippet of messenger RNA that gets into a few cells, and temporarily tells them to produce a viral protein and present it on their surface for the immune system to see. As close to mimicking a "natural" infection as you could possibly get without actually infecting anyone with a virus. Messenger RNA is naturally temporary - in nature it's the intermediate between DNA and protein, and is continually being degraded by cells to make way for new messages. So within the space of a few hours to days there's nothing left of the original injection - just the protein products displayed on the cell surfaces. As the immune system mounts a response, the cells displaying the viral protein will be killed off by the immune system's natural response to anything foreign. Eventually, nothing whatsoever remains of the vaccine - but now the immune system knows how to recognise the viral protein.
