Nowadays there is self certification. As a licensed plumber I sign the notice of completion at the end of the job. This is to say all work is complete and to the Australian Standards. I haven’t seen a plumbing inspector for a very long time. Years ago you knew the inspectors and they probably had notes on individual contractors. Today building work is of a lower standard. Before there was always the council building inspectors,the architects and government jobs always had there own inspector to keep an eye on construction.
We have recently completed works on $70 million construction project. The clients engineers signed off on the building. The punch list was minimal. You don’t like to pick at other people’s workmanship but there were obvious defects not detected. The punch list should have been huge. The builder wants quality but price and profits cloud there judgement.
I feel sorry for the residents of this tower,not sure who will take ownership of the problems.
