synapse is where cells communicate. there is no synaptic nerve that i know of.
there is a sciatic nerve and that ties in with him being unable to lie on his back and having pain.
it doesn't necessarily tie in with groin pain, however, confusion and misreporting could give a mistaken picture.
it could also be more than one problem. someone mentioned a hip as a possible.
is it possible he has fallen and injured his hip and back?
anyway, it certainly sounds mechanical probably.
