    Thanks afternoon crew.

    End-of-day summary:

The Australian share market set a new high before turning lower as gains in resource stocks were outweighed by declines across the wider market.

The ASX 200 finished nine points or 0.11% in the red at 7888 after earlier raising its record to 7910.5. South32, BHP and Santos were the best of the heavyweights. Significant drags included Coles, Goodman Group, Fortescue Metals and Orora.

The market briefly overcame soft leads from Wall Street, where the S&P 500 eased 0.2% and the Dow lost 0.6% after the Easter break.

US futures fell this afternoon after North Korea fired an intermediate-range missile and separate Israeli air strikes killed foreign aid workers in Gaza and Iranian military leaders in Syria. S&P 500 futures dropped 0.08%. Dow futures slid 0.3%.
