End-of-day summary:

The ASX 200 cracked 7900 for the first time as the curtain fell on a second straight positive quarter for the Australian benchmark.

The index traded as high as 7901.2 this session before trimming its advance to 77 points or 0.99% at 7897. The rally sealed a weekly gain of 1.63%, a monthly gain of 2.57% and a quarterly gain of 4.03%.

All 11 sectors advanced today. Highlights included gold and lithium miners and rate-sensitive property trust and utilities. The yield on 10-year Australian government bonds dropped back under 4% after tepid economic data this morning.

Wall Street closed at a new high overnight, ending a run of three straight losses. The S&P 500 bounced 0.86%.

US markets will trade twice before the ASX reopens on Tuesday - tonight and again on Monday.
