No idea why everyone is taking this personally, as if squatters just might move into your house while you're out for groceries.
Pretty obvious the average australian isn't leaving a livable house unoccupied, it's most likely someone from offshore, likely China.
As for the unlivable ones, they're waiting for development, dangerous, run down, and probably full of asbestos and mould. Just where you'd want to send a homeless person you're claiming your trying to help.
The guy's a grifter looking for attention, but the reactionaries can't help get baited by him.
