Just part of human nature, in my opinion. We have a bias towards thinking in terms of what we think are the most likely explanations of reality.
We seem to have an ability to live with cognitive dissonance which is probably just as well in a world in which reality seems to be marked by contradictory tenants even if the contradictions are the result of the workings of our minds rather than of reality itself.
