Sadly, one thing we haven't seen is a boost in funding for scientific research. Particularly not in Australia - ARC funding is down 30% since 2014, NHMRC funding is stagnant, the universities have hemorrhaged staff due to loss of student income, and the federal government has stood back and watched in quiet satisfaction. The vaccines were only able to be developed in such record time due to many decades of dedicated research into the underlying principles and methods - but the fallout from COVID-19 has devastated that very industry. It's a truly bitter irony.
