The people who arrived in 1788 didn't come by choice. They were people who were not born into a good position within the European class system and who were sentenced to harsh prison sentences without any legal representation or any chance of defending themselves often for the crime of trying to survive and feed their families.

Imagine if you or one of your relatives were locked up without any legal assistance and sent to the other side of the world just for stealing food for your staving family. You would be outraged. You would jump up and down and call it racially motivated. But here you are lumping all those people into one basking and calling them all "dumb".

More interestingly many of these people were later sold as slaves to work on farms etc. Many then eared their freedom and started farms and businesses.

Australia has developed into one of the great countries of the world starting with these people and assisted by migrants from all over the world. These people helped to build the foundations of what we have today. They may have been born into dire circumstances but when they finally got the chance they helped lay the foundations for what we see today.

In contrast what is your contribution other than whinging, whining and slagging the unfortunate underprivileged of the past?
