My friends know Mrs H has a degenerative disease and that recently she went into full care. Over these years her little pooch comforted her and sensed when things were bad. For him the sun shone out of her bum.
I now take him to visit a few times a week and though she is unresponsive the dog jumps up on her chair and will sit for an hour, hardly moving. He doesn't expect anything, enough to just be there.
At first I wondered if it would be better with a clean break, but I now know taking him helps us all.
