Companies don't have militaries, states do.
In any event militaries don't develop products "in house". In July 2001 the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) sold its Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA). Your claim that the UK military will "just take the idea and build their own" is ludicrous.
Finally the exclusive use assertion indicates ignorance the procurement process. Counties and their militias license products to each other to insure commonality and to reduce costs. The use of American aircraft by dozens of countries is a prime example.
