ENTIRE schools in Western Sydney are now made up of foreign-speaking students, with teachers and experts warning more funding is needed to cope with the growing language barriers in NSW’s public schools.
Education experts have warned the situation runs the danger of creating a two-tier education system in which public school pupils are put further behind as figures obtained by The Daily Telegraph through Freedom of Information laws reveal that 100 per cent of students at Wiley Park Public School now fall into the category of “Language Background other than English”.
The school’s 520 students speak 39 different languages from 31 countries — including Arabic, Bengali and Vietnamese.
Hampden Park Public School has a percentage of 99 per cent.
And there are seven Western Sydney schools with a 98 per cent LBOTE ratio — including Punchbowl Boys High School, Punchbowl Public School, Greenacre Public School and Belmore Boys High School. In the region, 63 schools have a ratio above 90 per cent.
