Ask any pilot if they would rather be in a 5th generation fighter over a 4th generation like the F-16 and they will firmly answer yes to the 5th generation.
Simply because BVR is the priority of fighter design since the 1960s - Stealth plus new generation of AMRAAM missiles will allow F-35 and F-22 to engage other aircraft at distances of up to 180 km
Also manoeuvrability hasn't been a key element of fighter design since the 1930s, faster aircraft with higher acceleration, energy retention and climb rate will dominate any fight over a slower more manoeuvrable aircraft. Thrust vectoring is all very good at airshows but in reality has very limited use in actual ACM and only bleeds energy at an alarming rate and leave any aircraft a sitting duck.
There have been countless real world scenario training of F-22 vs other aircraft every engagement where F-22 utilises stealth and BVR engagement (range over 50km) the F-22 is vastly superior, just in the same way F-35 will be.
